Match Report: Turf Four, 2013-14 Round 3

Round 3 saw us take on premiership contender Lynbrook, with a pretty experienced side containing Coomoora legend Jim. We won the toss and chose to bat on what was a perfect day for it, but it’s fair to say things didn’t go to plan early… we were 4/30 early on with things looking grim until Luke ‘Emu & Hilly’s Lovechild’ Vincent took control and put on innings saving partnerships with Muzz (22) and Cooge (33). LV ended up with a well made 85, ably supported by the aforementioned two and Pez (25*) to get us to a competitive total of 215. The Lakers couldn’t face 5 overs without losing one, finishing day one at 1/7.

The 2nd day was a toil, and I asked the boys to play boring, tight cricket, which is what we did. Pig and the ever improving Joel Robertson got us off to the perfect start having the lakers 2/30 after 20, after which myself and LV bowled in a partnership together for close to 56 overs , with LV getting 2/50 off 25 and myself 4/50 off 30. Special mention to LV who was unluckily dropped from the 1’s due to the points system, but I see no reason for him not to go back in straight away. We finished the win by 70 runs with an incredible 36 maidens bowled in the game.

Round 4 sees us take on the new boys in Dingley, who’ll be looking for revenge after being completely outshone by the Roo in Bendigo on trip away 2 years ago.
