Match Report: Turf One, 2013-14 Round 3

On a glorious afternoon out at Berwick we again lost the toss and the home side had no hesitation in batting first on a very good wicket.

Our bowlers started the day off in good shape having the home side 2 for 20 off 10 overs, with Joey Hawke (1 for 39) and Lance Baptist (3 for 48) getting two early break throughs. Unfortunately that was the only success we had as Berwick’s remaining opener and number 4 put on a whopping 286 for the 3rd wicket and they finished the day at a monster 6 for 383 with Tim Bacic chipping in with 2 wickets. To say it was a long day is an understatement!

In reply we didn’t start off well losing the 2 early wickets of Ollie and Thanura very cheaply, which then bought Johnno and Planky together. They both batted promisingly until Johno was out for 19, however that did not slow down Planky as he scored his first half century for the firsts. Unfortunately he fell 17 short of his century, but was a great knock and hopefully he can take it with him this season. The score was 4 for 149 when Panky departed, and while Paul ‘Ian’ Hill (43) and Darts (42) put on a decent partnership the score of 383 was always going to be very hard to chase down. We ended up finishing on 6 for 243 at the end of the 80 overs.

Another disappointing game, but with a big month ahead of us we need a big response from the whole team.
