Round Five – Second XI Match Report

Scotland Rodney May

Scotland Rodney May

Under the guidance of new skipper Scott May, the seconds immediately lost the toss against St Mary’s, who elected to bat on a lifeless Coomoora wicket. And after reaching 3/140 in the 50th over, it would appear as though a big chase was on the cards. Out of desperation more than anything, the new captain brought himself on as the 7th bowler and within 19 overs St Mary’s were all out for 192! Scotty taking his first turf wicket amongst a literally unbelievable 6/29!
The downpour of the previous days saw a lengthy delay before play on day 2, and the bowler friendly conditions made an already challenging chase even more difficult. Despite fighting for 44 overs, the boys were dismissed for a disappointing 55. The captain again the shining light, this time with 23 not out.
With more and more players returning the seconds are not far from a win, and if they take some inspiration from their leader’s efforts in this game then that win may be even closer than expected!
